1/2 cup butter (scant) 1 cup sugar Yolks 4 eggs.

2 cups flour.

3 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 cup milk.

Cream butter and add gradually, while beating constantly, sugar; then add egg yolks, beaten until thick and lemon-colored. Mix and sift flour and baking powder and add alternately with milk to first mixture. Bake in a buttered shallow pan or layer cake tins, in a moderate oven.

Mrs. Raymond's Gold Cake

1/2 cup butter 1 cup sugar Yolks 5 eggs 1 egg.

1 3/4 cups flour.

3 3/4 teaspoons baking powder.

teaspoon salt.

1/2 cup milk.

Cream butter and add sugar gradually, while beating constantly; then add egg yolks and egg well beaten. Mix and sift dry ingredients and add alternately with milk to first mixture. Turn into a buttered and floured cake tin and bake in a moderate oven forty-five minutes. Remove from pan and cover with Cocoanut Coffee Frosting.
