Two cups brown sugar, 1 cup shortening, 3 eggs, 3 tablespoons boiling water, flour to roll out, 1 teaspoon soda, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 teaspoon cloves, 1 nutmeg, 1 cup raisins.

Two cups white sugar, 1 scant cup shortening, 2 eggs, 1 cup sour milk, 1 level teaspoon soda, 4 cups flour, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1-2 teaspoon cloves, nutmeg, 1 cup raisins, 1 cup currants, 2 teaspoons baking powder.
Drop with a teaspoon on buttered tins and bake in a quick oven. Mrs. O. W. Lord.
Two cups brown sugar, 3 eggs 1 cup shortening, 1 cup sour milk, 1 cup raisins, 1 cup dates, 1 cup nuts, 1 teaspoon soda, spices to taste, flour to make quite stiff.
Drop on a well greased pan with a teaspoon and bake.
