This is a common complaint with young women who are accustomed to do much scrubbing on their knees. It causes very great pain, swelling, and sometimes fever. It may be known from acute inflammation of the synovial membrane of the knee-joint, by observing that the swelling is in front of the knee-pan, whereas in inflammation of the synovial membrane of the knee-joint, the knee-pan is thrown forwards, and the swelling is most prominent at the sides.
A few leeches had better be applied, followed by warm poultices, till the inflammation has subsided. After which the knee should be rubbed three times a day for half an hour at a time, with the Iodine Liniment.
