The methods applied on this exercise are practically the same as those given in Exercise XII.

In this piece of work long convex curves and short concave curves are the special features. All the cutting may be done with the gouge, with the exception of the ends which require the chisel to finish, or both the gouge and the chisel may be used on the side.

Finish with No. 1 1/2, No. 1/2, and No. 0 sandpaper. (Neither oil nor varnish is to be used on this piece.) When the work is finished on the lathe remove and trim the ends at the bench.
