Aralia - Notes

The most interesting plant in this genus for the garden is A. mandschurica, often grown under the name of Dimorphanthus mandschuricus; but chinensis, ricinifolium and spinosa (syn. Acanthopanax japonicum) are handsome hardy shrubs, valuable where sub-tropical bedding is carried on. There are silver-variegated and golden-variegated forms of mandschurica, both beautiful plants, suitable for sheltered, sunny spots.

The only hardy species is imbricata, the Monkey Puzzle or Chile Pine, which is referred to in Chapter 17.
